IHES Trust UK is a charity for the public benefit supporting the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES). It is dedicated to advancing science and education in fundamental mathematics, theoretical physics, and related disciplines in the UK. Its key goals include:
Promoting appreciation and understanding of science which has originated in France and furthering British and French relations on scientific research and debate.
Carrying out and facilitating scientific research in the fields mentioned above and promoting and publishing the useful results of the same.
Enhancing public awareness and understanding of these fields and related scientific theories and developments.
Participating in scientific debate.
A founding member of Université Paris-Saclay, IHES is a globally renowned private research institute specializing in mathematics, theoretical physics, and related disciplines. Recognized as a Foundation serving the public interest, the Institute hosts a small team of permanent professors and welcomes around 200 researchers annually from across the globe for research visits. The Institute’s core values of research freedom, independence, and interdisciplinarity make it a unique and vital hub for fundamental scientific discovery.
Board of trustees

Francis Brown, Chair of the Board of Trustees
Francis Brown is a Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University with dual Franco-British citizenship. He has over 10 years’ experience in the charities sector and serves as a trustee of All Souls College, Oxford, where he is a Senior Research Fellow. He has a long-standing relationship with the IHES where he has been a frequent visitor in several different guises: as a Ph.D student, post-doctoral fellow, CNRS researcher and Gelfand chair.

Guillaume Bioche works at BNP Paribas in London and has a longstanding interest in mathematics. He is involved in developing automated market-making algorithms and strategies, in particular for the fixed-income markets.

Rama Cont is Professor of Mathematics and Chair of Mathematical Finance at the University of Oxford and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Mathematics of Random Systems. Rama Cont’s research focuses on stochastic analysis, stochastic processes and mathematical modeling in finance.

Amy Gibson is VP of Legal at BenevolentAI based in London specialising in commercial and IP matters. Her career has taken her from city law firm to the Abbey Road recording studios and on to data science, animal genetics and now drug discovery and AI.

Clotilde Walewska, Trustee
Clotilde Walewska began her career at Electra Partners, a private equity firm in Paris, before spending five years in London as part of KPMG Corporate Finance’s Private Equity team. With a deep interest in the sciences, Clotilde and her husband have been longtime supporters of the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES).
